World Famous Mei Lanfang Beijing Opera Troupe To Make Los Angeles Debut
The Mei Lanfang Beijing Opera Troupe is scheduled to perform at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood this coming Friday and Saturday, October 10 and 11, 2008. This will be the Mei Lanfang Beijing Opera Troupe’s first time to perform in the United States in almost 80 years.
Beijing Opera is a form of traditional Chinese theater in which performers utilize four main skills. The first two skills are song and speech. The third skill is dance-acting, which includes dance and pantomime. The fourth skill is combat, which includes acrobatics and fights with several types of weaponry.
The Troupe’s ornate costumes and elaborate makeup are something that people from all backgrounds always enjoy. To help bridge any language barriers between the actors and the audience, screens with English subtitles will accompany all performances.
A Press Conference to introduce the Troupe to the Los Angeles-area news media will be held at the California Institute for Chinese Performing Arts, located at 9837 Baldwin Place, El Monte, California 91731, on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, beginning at 12:00 a.m. (noon). At the Press Conference, the Troupe will be demonstrated some of its unique skills for the news media.
